The Senior section adopted the name of The Willmott’s  in honour and recognition of Mr. Charles Willmott who, when he came to Woburn Sands in 1912, was involved in the design and construction of the original nine hole course. He had been the Professional at the Club for forty two years when he retired in 1956. A bust sculpture of him is displayed in the entrance lobby of the Club house.

Aspley Guise and Woburn Sands GC senior men, that is golfers of 60 years and older,( now 55 years) are eligible to join The Willmotts Section. The Willmotts Section promotes competitive golf for seniors, and organises a number of social events. It also organises an annual golfing holiday with a full programme of competitions for the golfers and other activities for non-golfers.

Willmotts competitions, which are played from the yellow tees, are usually held on Monday and Thursday mornings. The format of these competitions can be found in the Club Diary. Some are individual stroke-play competitions that qualify for handicap adjustments. In addition there are both home and away matches against other clubs and matches against other sections within our own club.

Most competitions are played for prizes, which are funded from the entrance fee. The matches against other clubs and some of the other competitions are followed by a meal.

The section, of around sixty members, has its own elected Captain and committee. It is also able to generate sufficient funds to enable it to be self-supporting.

EXTRACT FROM THE 1999 CLUB HISTORY

THE WILLMOTTS

Like in many Clubs, the number of older members has increased during the last five decades. During the 1970's several of the Club members started to play together during the week rather than at weekends to avoid course congestion and one or two matches were arranged with other Clubs. With early retirement being offered many more older members opted for five-day membership and in 1980 the then Club Secretary. L Barker, who was also of retirement age, approached the Club and Charles Willmott with a view to forming a Senior section. Both the Club and Mr Willmott agreed to the proposal and the Senior section was established. The name chosen for the group was "The Willmotts" and they have their own Captain, Secretary and Treasurer.

At the present time there are more than 80 members of "The Willmotts" playing their own competitions and inter-club matches.
